The last journey
Was at my grandaunt’s funeral this morning.
A very emotional moment, my granduncle was terribly sad. He’ll be terribly lonely from now and it’s so sad to see him like that.
Went to the Mandai Crematorium for the first time. A very high tech, clean place. There is a basement car park which leads to the service halls, a screen which shows whose service at what hall and what time, and the service hall that gives the feel of a church.
We gathered at the hall, and the casket was pushed to the front from another entrance which leads from outside. After the last prayers were said, it was pushed out from the same door to the exhume area. That was when we walked to the viewing room.
A forklift-like machine pushed the casket into the area for cremation. No man needed, only the machine works.
The casket went past a door, before it reaches the cremation area. Then the door closed. You won’t be able to see anything like the fire or whatever. And it’s air con all around, not heat.
There was less grief because we cannot see how the last door closes behind the casket. The feeling of parting.
The only thing was the ceiling was just glass and transparent, which some thought that it is not good because the sun shines on the casket.
Rest in peace, grandaunt.
