Il Lido

Went to il Lido in the afternoon for lunch. A total of 10 of us. Since Malaysia was closed today, we had a leisurely lunch.

It was a bit freaky coz I was just thinking of having pasta in the morning. Plus I was thinking of whether there will be a lunch outing for the department since we were kinda like…free today. And see? We indeed went to an Italian restaurant and that we went out for long lunch.

I’ve long heard of il Lido but yet to have the chance to go try it out. Also because…errmm…I know it is not very cheap. Hehe~

Anyway, it was an impressive place. And most of the time, we were comparing it with Garibaldi which we went the last time.

I tried lots of food, mostly because I was sharing with SC since there were some dishes which sounded ‘exotic’ enough. I was divided between having the ‘classic’ set or ala-carte dishes for I wanted to satisfy my pasta craving, yet I couldn’t find any which attracts me in the ala-carte menu. But the set was a bit too much, I thought, though I was already quite set on having the molten lava cake which comes as dessert in the menu.

In the end, I chose to have the ala-carte stuff. I had the 24 months aged parma ham as antipasti, while SC had the deep fried zucchini flower with ricotta cheese, goose liver, spinach and raspberry dressing.

My ham was so-so, or rather it came quite simple to me. I heard that Garibaldi’s ham is better though people said that the Il Lido’s version is the best.

The zucchini flower was quite nice with the ricotta cheese (that’s all I can taste actually). Not overpowering in taste. In fact, it was quite light though it was deep fried.

Since I didn’t order the set, I settled for the Atlantic cod. The fish literally melted in my mouth! The skin was crispy and with the softness of the flesh, it tasted real good. But for those who like food on the salty side, you might feel that the fish is tasteless. In fact, the meat sat on mashed potato which was flavourful and complemented the fish taste nicely.

SC who had the sea urchin spaghetti, felt that it tasted…oriental, but just couldn’t catch what exactly it tasted like. I didn’t quite like it coz it had a slight preserved cabbage taste and had an overpowering (IMO) smell.

The pasta of the day, squid ink pasta, was fantastic.

Rounded off with the meal with ‘Molten Lava Dark Chocolate Cake, White Chocolate & Coffee Gelato’. This one is heavenly. The chocolate oozed out the moment I poked the cake and oooo~. Gastronomically appetising. The coffee gelato had orange bits decorated on it and the match was just superb. Sweet with a tangy taste.

And the best thing was, I felt full even though it was only 3 course.
