Review: Balmoral Bakery

I was around Sunset Way for lunch today, and so went to explore this bakery after reading what LIC had written in his blog on this.
I wanted to try their egg tarts, but it was out at that moment, and I only saw custard tarts. Nevertheless, I tasted their custard puffs (not in pix, coz i ate it before I took this. Haha). Not too sweet, and very fragrant filling.
SC who went to buy some pastries with me, said their chicken pies are nice. I tried – the chicken filling was ample but I don’t really like the taste.
The samosas – yum. Very very nice! It’s not the typical curry potato filling inside. I think there should be some meat in there coz it felt chewy.
I tasted the doughnut which SC bought. It was a totally different feeling altogether. Doughnuts nowadays are sweet, limp and soft (thanks to the doughnut craze). This bakery does it different totally. Their doughnuts are firmer and not too sweet. It gives off a nice bread smell as you chew on the firmer ring. It’s like eating bread!
Also bought (as above) the banana cake, walnut cake and custard muffins, which at this point of time I have yet to try coz I wanted to share with my family.
Chicken pies, banana cake & custard muffines cost cost $1.10; samosas & walnut cake cost $1.30, each.
I was very tempted to try their cream cakes, but unfortunately I had to bring the bought items to office (can’t leave them in the car under the sun) so I thought it would be too messy. Plus the cream might melt if it’s too heaty!
There’s always a next time, though.
absolutjoiz adds on: I’ve tried the walnut pastry and the banana cake. Fantastic! I like the walnut pastry best, which I actually regretted a bit to have eaten that first, because I’ve got this habit of saving the best for last. Heh.
The walnut thing had a layer of pastry on the top and bottom, with the walnut cake in the middle. Then a wallop of cream keeps them together.
Banana cake – normal, but it was still moist even left overnite. That’s a plus.
I will get the walnut pastry again…definitely.

haha! glad you like it : )
Yea. Only thing is the shop is surrounded by construction works so now it’s not so visible from the roads.
A bit disappointed that the egg tarts weren’t available.
