Went for the new Audi A4 launch Tuesday nite. It was quite far off the roads, being at the Changi Exhibition Centre (where the Aerospace events are usually held).
It was quite fun, but it was a pity I was such a scaredy-cat.
The entrance to the exhibition centre was blocked off, and I felt the signage were not enough to guide people to the place, expecially the place wasn’t too brightly lit too.
The event was supposed to start at 7.30pm. We arrived quite late at 7.45pm, and most of the people actually started arriving then. Those there before were enjoying the snacks and drinks provided.
We were led into the presentation venue for a intro to the new A4, accompanied by a performance which they call ‘car ballet’ with about 8 Audis (I think) behind the screen. Then we were divided into 2 groups.
We were ushered to one side of the whole area, to test out the A4, whilst the other group went to the other side. First there was a crank course route, to try out the dynamic feature of the steering. I knocked over a few cones, and it was quite funny because there were so many cones out there, which can be quite confusing. One can easily miss the turn and end up getting out of the correct track.
This we tested out the A4 1.8L and 2.7L diesel cars. Erm, first time attempting a left-hand drive coz the 2.7L in use was a leftie.
The 2nd part of at the first corner will be testing the braking system of the A4. The EPS and the ABS combined together stabilises the car when doing an E-brake. I was supposed to accelerate at a speed of 80km/h within a space of I think….100m, then do a sudden lane change then brake.
Because the cones in front which determines the portion to do a sudden left turn was a bit too intimidating, I ended up releasing the accelerator when nearing and couldn’t really experience the power of it.
Aiyaa.
The car proceeded on to the next station where I accelerate to 60km/h and then do an E-brake when the car reaches a sandy area. Here…I think I was too excited to step on the brakes to feel the effect, but didn’t floor the accelerator enough to constitute an E-brake.
Wasted man…the Audi guy there said I needed breakfast, because within a range of 10, I only put in 5. Wakaka~
The other corner was to test out the quattro 3.2L. This time, we were not allowed to drive the car, but the Audi guys were to drive, and then we become passengers.
I duno how fast it went, but it was to experience the difference between comfort mode and dynamic mode. This is a new feature where they see it as a 3-in-1, with auto, comfort, and dynamic mode, depending on your mood which you would choose to drive.
Ok, this one is not recommended for motion sickness people, because it was travel at a high speed with turnings. So if there is no seat belt, you might find yourself being flung from one side to another or even out of the window. Even with seat belt, the centrifugal force is still great because of the speed.
Last part ended up with a test drive out to the roads and back.
The whole thing ended nearly 11pm. But it was fun. Though I regretted holding back during the test drive at the first corner.
Oh ya, we were given pretty lanyards with names on card. Unfortunately, they recycle the thing, because it was damn pretty. We had to return the name tags with the lanyard.
Got off with a T-shirt for this event, that’s all.

No pictures coz after taking this, my phone batt went flat. Diao.
